Mucosa-associated Lymphoid Tissue (MALT) Lymphoma

چکیده
MALT can develop in nearly every organ as a result of chronic infection or an autoimmune process. If there is prolonged lymphoid proliferation, a malignant clone can emerge and a MALT lymphoma could follow. Certain infections have been associated with MALT lymphomas: There is H. pylori infection in 85-90% of gastric MALT lymphomas. [1] Chlamydophila psittaci has been identified as a possible causative agent in ocular adnexal lymphomas. [3] Borrelia burgdorferi infection has been linked to skin MALT lymphomas. [4] Campylobacter jejuni has been linked to small bowel MALT lymphomas. [5] There is also a possible link between hepatitis C and HIV and MALT lymphomas. [6]

Gastric MALT Lymphoma Presenting as a Large Solitary Submucosal Mass
Herein, we report on a 24-year-old woman with a large well-marginated gastric mucosa-associated lymphoid tissue (MALT) lymphoma. She presented with dysphagia and epigastric pain. In esophagogastroduodenoscopy there was a huge bulging submucosal mass with normal appearing mucosa in the cardia in addition to a grade B gastro-esophageal reflux disease. She was treated with a proton pump inhibit...
متن کاملHigh-grade Hepatic Mucosa-associated Lymphoid Tissue (MALT) Lymphoma Probably Transformed from the Low-grade Gastric MALT Lymphoma
The Mucosa-associated lymphoid tissue (MALT) lymphoma, which was first described in 1983, is known to be caused by chronic Helicobacter pylori (HP) infection, which triggers lymphoid infiltration and formation of organized lymphoid tissue. In approximately two thirds of cases of MALT, the lymphoma has been observed to regress after treatment of H. pylori infection; this provides strong evidence...
متن کاملA Case of Multiple Mucosa-Associated Lymphoid Tissue (MALT) Lymphoma of the Colon Identified as Simple Mucosal Discoloration
Most colonic multiple mucosa-associated lymphoid tissue (MALT) lymphomas are confirmed with a histologic and immunohistochemical staining of the mucosal biopsy specimen obtained during colonoscopic examinations. Endoscopically, colonic MALT lymphomas frequently appear as protruding and/or ulcerative lesions, and there are not so many reports of colonic MALT lymphoma as compared to the frequent ...
متن کاملMucosa-Associated Lymphoid Tissue Lymphoma Presenting as Massive Gastrointestinal Bleeding: A Case Report
We present a 71-year-old man with mucosa-associated lymphoid tissue (MALT) lymphoma of the colon presenting with massive gastrointestinal hemorrhage. At laparotomy two areas of irregular mucosa were noted in the ascending colon and cecum. Pathology revealed MALT lymphoma. MALT lymphoma of the colon is rare and the presentation as well as outcome of our case makes him unique.
متن کاملOverexpression of miR-142-5p and miR-155 in Gastric Mucosa-Associated Lymphoid Tissue (MALT) Lymphoma Resistant to Helicobacter pylori Eradication
microRNAs (miRNAs) are small non-coding RNAs that can function as endogenous silencers of target genes and play critical roles in human malignancies. To investigate the molecular pathogenesis of gastric mucosa-associated lymphoid tissue (MALT) lymphoma, the miRNA expression profile was analyzed. miRNA microarray analysis with tissue specimens from gastric MALT lymphomas and surrounding non-tumo...
متن کاملMucosa-Associated Lymphoid Tissue Lymphoma of the Esophagus Coexistent with Bronchus-Associated Lymphoid Tissue Lymphoma of the Lung
Non-Hodgkin's lymphoma very rarely involves the esophagus, occurring in less than 1% of patients with gastrointestinal lymphoma. A few cases of mucosa-associated lymphoid tissue (MALT) lymphoma of the esophagus have been reported in the English literature. To our knowledge, there has been no report of MALT lymphoma of the esophagus coexistent with bronchus-associated lymphoid tissue lymphoma (B...
